August: holidays, summer nights, and toasts under the stars.
August has its own rhythm. It’s the month to slow down, to leave the alarm clock behind, pack your bags, and trade obligations for days without too many plans. It’s a time for beaches, small towns, long after-dinner conversations, summer parties, and nights when no one seems in too much of a hurry to go home.
And this August of 2026 also brings something very special in the sky. On August 12, we can enjoy a total solar eclipse, an extraordinary event that will make the sky the star and that, like any great spectacle, deserves to be contemplated with a good drink in hand. And when night falls, the Perseids will add their own special magic to the month of Saint Lawrence, with shooting stars streaking across the sky while conversations stretch into the early hours.
This month’s recommendations also look upwards. We found sparkling wines to celebrate our vacation, white wines with a personality deeply rooted in our region, and rosés that seem designed to accompany the heat, aperitifs, and endless afternoons.
Red wines offer two sides to summer: from young, fresh, and easygoing options, perfect for sharing without too much fuss, to aged wines and Gran Reservas that call for a relaxed table, good company, and a special occasion. And, for those looking to turn a meal into a true event, there’s also room for those great wines that aren’t uncorked every day, but rather when we want to create a memorable moment.
After-dinner conversation also plays a key role. A sweet and elegant wine can be the perfect ending to a summer dinner, while a good vermouth recaptures that quintessentially Spanish pleasure of starting a holiday or aperitif without looking at the clock.
And because August is also synonymous with discovery and travel, this month’s beers take us from Ireland to Germany: two very different styles to enjoy a beverage that finds its best expression when shared. The journey ends in the Canary Islands, with a gin of singular character that reminds us that summer can also have Atlantic aromas and its own unique personality.
August is about looking to the sky, toasting to what we have, and enjoying what will never be exactly the same again.
This month, let summer set the pace. Enjoy a good meal, linger over conversation, find a dark spot to contemplate the stars, and if you’re lucky enough to witness an eclipse, remember that some moments deserve to be accompanied by a truly special drink.
